Early Manuscripts Electronic Library

The Early Manuscripts Electronic Library (EMEL) uses digital technologies to make manuscripts and other historical source materials accessible for study and appreciation by researchers and the public. In 2008 the UCLA Library and EMEL agreed to pool resources in pursuit of common goals.

EMEL facilitates access to global cultural heritage as preserved in ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance manuscripts and other historical source materials. To this end, EMEL pioneers new technologies to create faithful digital surrogates of the text and art of early manuscripts and other historical source materials, and undertakes onsite digitization projects in libraries around the world.
